In today’s boozy train news, Alaska Railroad just kicked off its 2019-20 winter service. With the new season comes the launch of the “Hops on the Rail” tour, a brewery day-trip that offers guests the chance to visit a collection of Alaskan breweries.

Guided by Big Swig Tours, the tour starts in Anchorage, where guests board the Aurora Winter Train for a three-hour, one-way trip north to the historic town of Talkeetna. Once there, a “hoperator” guides beercationers on a behind-the-scenes tour of four breweries, with one located in Talkeetna, and others visited along the route back to Anchorage.

Some of the breweries visited on the tour may include Denali Brewing Co., Bearpaw River Brewing Co., Arkose Brewery, Bleeding Heart Brewery, Odd Man Rush, or Resolution Brewing Company.

“For our winter 2019-2020 season, we are excited to start working with Big Swig Tours,” Dale Wade, the vice president of marketing and customer service for the Alaska Railroad, said in a press release. “We know the local craft beer scene is of interest to many of our guests, and it’s great to offer another way to experience the Railbelt town of Talkeetna.”

Tickets start at $329 per person. The cost includes one-way rail travel, a minimum of 16 beer tastings, a boxed lunch from Talkeetna Roadhouse, and round-trip transportation.

Better hop on it!
