On the heels of Chicago’s Vinitaly conference, Adam and Joanna return to the Big Apple with some thoughts about how the wine industry can dig itself out of the hole it’s been in as of late. Despite an overarching belief at Vinitaly that wine could benefit from an industry-wide campaign à la “Got Milk?” or “Pork. The Other White Meat,” the two are adamant that the wine world just needs more compelling brands.

When we consider the biggest catalyst in the rise of Prosecco, we immediately think of the La Marca brand. When we think about how non-alcoholic beer landed on the drinking community’s radar, we have to thank Athletic Brewing. As Adam puts it, “We spend too much time talking about the forest when we should be focusing on the trees.” Once these trees have grown large enough, we’ll be able to see smaller ones sprout up that can potentially ride the growth wave in any given category.

On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Adam, Joanna, and Zach explore whether the slumping wine industry can be revitalized by clever, collective marketing efforts, or if it will require a few key brands to change the conversation and get consumers enthusiastic about drinking wine. Tune in for more.
