Going to a fancy restaurant or bar on Mother’s Day is a classic move to show your mom that you care. But if you can’t get a reservation, making brunch and drinks is the next best thing — if you know what to make. So VinePair reached out to three bartenders for the best Mother’s Day cocktails to help you out.
We spoke with Natasha David from Nitecap, Jade Sotack from Jupiter Disco, and Lucinda Sterling from Middle Branch. They know the cocktails that moms need and want, because they are moms themselves. Each has a child under a year old.
Here are the best Mother’s Day cocktails to make and what inspired each woman to make them.
Jade Sotack — Mother Lover
“Mother Lover was inspired by the Airmail and Justin Timberlake. I wanted to make something that my husband will make for me (paging Al Sotack) to go with my breakfast in bed this Mother’s Day.”
Ingredients:
1 ounce Novo Fogo Silver Cachaca
0.5 ounce Fernet-Branca
0.75 ounce lemon juice
0.75 ounce honey
1 strawberry
1 orange slice
Directions:
Muddle strawberry and orange slice in tin. Add remaining ingredients to tin. Shake. Strain into coupe and top with Prosecco. Garnish with a flower.
Lucinda Sterling — Sunday Morning Hues
“Inspired by the Ash Wednesday cocktail (gin, heavy cream, honey, and fresh berries), I wanted to create something that smacks of a decadent summer, daytime cocktail.”
Ingredients:
1 ounce Creme Yvette
1 ounce Kerrygold Irish Cream Liqueur
1 ounce Caffe Borghetti
1 ounce espresso
1 ounce mascarpone
Directions:
Mix all ingredients except mascarpone with ice in an Irish Coffee mug. Top with mascarpone cheese and garnish with an orchid.
Natasha David — Breakfast in Bed
“Breakfast in Bed is what I hope I’m getting on my first Mother’s Day — I’m dreaming of a beautiful slice of sourdough, smothered in orange marmalade! I wanted to make the cocktail on the lighter side so that busy mamas can still do what they need to do. The cocktail is inspired by a Mint Julep, with an herbaceous, bitter twist.”
Ingredients:
2 ounces Carpano Antica
0.75 ounce lemon juice
0.5 ounce simple syrup
1 teaspoon Brancamenta
1 barspoon orange marmalade
Directions:
Shake all the ingredients and strain into a double rocks glass with crushed ice. Garnish with a lavish mint bouquet
