Craft beer has grown from a subculture into a multimillion-dollar industry with more than 6,000 small and independent American brewers at last count. The diversity of the genre spans privately owned brewpubs, regional labels with cult appeal, and fledgling empires distributed nationwide.

We analyzed data gathered by the Brewers Association (BA) to explore the concentration of craft breweries in all 50 states in 2017. In the interests of clarity, we mapped the number of craft breweries by state as well as breweries per capita. The BA defines the latter as per 100,000 adults over the age of 21.
