Michelle, Chief Revenue Officer — Casa Dragones Tequila Joven
I was served Casa Dragones Tequila Joven at a dinner party this week. It’s a hand blended mix of 100% blue agave silver tequila and tequila that has been aged for 5 years in charred American oak barrels. This process delivered the smoothest tequila I’ve ever tasted, perfect for sipping. And it went great with a strawberry dessert. Casa Dragones easily offers an alternative to scotch as an aperitif or a nightcap, but at $275 a bottle it will have to be a special occasion before I drink again.
Mara, Digital Designer — Gin & Tonic with Portobello Road Gin
This week my fantastic co-worker graced me with the most refreshing Gin & Tonic I’ve had in a while. It also came handed to me in a little pink cup, which made it ever so delightful. Sometimes when its blazing hot outside, all you need is a simple but classic cocktail.
Courtney, Tasting Editor — A Tribute to Grace Rosé
I’m very finicky about rosés, which makes the fact that every single person attending this week’s Memorial Day barbecue (including me) brought rosé somewhat ironic. This was by far my favorite of the bunch – lively and fresh, with tons of peach, tangerine, and wild strawberry fruit. The fact that it was out of magnum was a happy bonus!
Vicki, Staff Writer — Movia’s Ribolla
This week, I used Movia’s Ribolla (locally known in Slovenia as Rebula) in the wine class I teach on Wednesdays. I was a little apprehensive as to how the crowd would react, but everybody loved it! The wine is technically considered an amber wine, due to the skin contact that the white grape juice sees. The result is an insanely drinkable, fuller-bodied wine, bursting with mouth-coating flavors of yellow fruit and baking spice. Plus, it’s organic and biodynamic.
Nick, Staff Writer — Downeast Cider at Annabel’s
I took an 18 mile bike ride to and from Randall’s Island Park, and by the end I was pretty beat. I’m not known for exercising, to say the least. I stopped by Annabel’s in Hell’s Kitchen afterward and got a refreshing unfiltered Downeast Cider. It’s one of my favorite ciders — thick, juicy, refreshing, and a good balance of dry and sweet.
