The Story Behind The Orange Hot Chocolate

Who doesn’t love a hot chocolate? It’s like a soft, warm hug for your palate. Make a big batch of this for your holiday party or intimate dinner, and the warm chocolaty booziness will mix with luscious waves of nostalgia to envelop your guests in a warm embrace. If you’re handy in the kitchen, roll up your sleeves and make the hot chocolate from scratch. But if you’re pressed for time, or just home alone looking for an accompaniment to a quiet holiday chill session, a premixed powder works just as well. All you need is gin for the base and then a little Cointreau to bump up the flavor. Finish the cocktail off with a fresh slice of orange to give it a little color and aroma.

Ingredients

  • 5 ounces gin
  • 1 ounce Cointreau
  • 1 ounce hot chocolate powder
  • 5 ounces hot water
  • ½ orange wheel (garnish)

Directions

  1. In the bottom of the glass pour gin and Cointreau
  2. Add hot chocolate powder
  3. Top with hot water
  4. Stir to mix all ingredients
  5. Garnish with orange slice
