One of the things we believe in here at VinePair is that you can pair wine with anything. So with Easter around the corner, we decided to challenge ourselves to find two wines that cut nicely through the intense sugary flavor of both Peeps and Cadbury Creme Eggs. While acidic semi-sweet bubbly cuts through the white sugar of the peeps, heavy port-style wine from Israel – hey it’s Passover this weekend too – balances out the heavy sweetness of the Cadbury Creme Eggs. Or at least we hoped. Here was our reasoning:

Bubbly is always a good bet when you’re aiming to balance out intense, sharp sweetness. Port, on the other hand, is viscous and layered, perfect for chocolate, heavy cakes, and our favorite Easter candy – well some people’s favorite Easter candy… Still, Easter candy and wine pairing was a risky endeavor.
