Ross-idi winery Nikolaevo Vineyard unfiltered Rubin 2014 Review
Chalk this up to trying new things. The Rubin grape is a cross of Nebbiolo and Syrah developed in 1944 in Bulgaria. It has 50% more anthocyanin (pigment) than a Cabernet Sauvignon and doesn't age well. I am oddly drawn to this wine. The ripe plum and black currant fruit is nice, as is the balsamic on the palate and well-integrated tannin. It has the chewiness of Syrah and the acidity and rose petal aroma of Nebbiolo. I am not sure that it is worth $26 but then again if I was grilling up some lean meat and wanted to try something different, I would give this one a go.
