Rocamadre Paraje Altamira Malbec 2020 Review

The word paraje means “place” in Spanish. This is how the Argentine winemaking community is beginning to express their terroir. Similar to the French idea of clos, meaning walled vineyard, here it is more about localizing sense of place in a bottle. This husband and wife team make wines in the Altamira paraje, over three thousand feet above sea level. This wine has a very intense nose. The fruit is very heady and fruit-forward, leaning heavily into the earthy category. The palate is soft and dense with good high desert acidity to keep the wine refreshing.
