Ponzi Vineyards Chehalem Mountains Arneis 2017 Review
In Italian Arneis means “little rascal” due to its difficulty to manage in the vineyard. If it is that finicky on the boot, no wonder we rarely see it stateside, but here we are. It’s also pretty tough making Italian grapes work here in the U.S. but Ponzi has made a quite delicious American version. There is an undeniable wet rock and pear note on the nose that carries through to the palate, which is rich and all consuming, with great acidity to keep everything in check. It’s not cheap, but this is one hell of a food wine and I’m not just talking salad. Get some boar or duck and watch this wine shine.
