New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA
Review
Pale and black malts make up an unusual grain bill in this dark golden imperial IPA. A pale khaki head bubbles like a witch's brew for a few moments before leaving doily-like lace around the lip of the glass. The nose is fruity, biscuity, and resinous – the palate practically flammable — the taste like torched citrus peel, pine needles, and toast. Traces of crystalized raw sugar are overpowered by grapefruit peel bitterness and hot alcohol, a boozy heat that warms all the way down, even as the citrusy finish beguiles with an unexpected zest.
