Isautier Traditional Rum 16 Year
Review
The small Indian Ocean island of Réunion exports some world-class rums, and this bottle is no exception. Hailing from the seven-generation, family-run producer Maison Isautier, this molasses-based expression was laid down to age in barrel in May 2006 before being bottled in September 2022. While the resulting spirit clocks in at a whopping 57 percent ABV, it offers a rather reserved, but nuanced nose and palate. Notes of dried stone fruits and oaky vanilla sweetness emerge from the glass, followed up by a mineral-rich palate with hints of licorice, roasted coffee, and demerara sugar.
