Gary Farrell Russian River Selection Chardonnay 2016 Review
Theresa Heredia has been applying her Burgundian style to this winery since 2012, and this wine shows that in spades. It is definitely a Russian River Chardonnay but if you were to nose it blind, with it’s upfront salinity and wet rock aromas mingling with floral (maybe jasmine) and lemon rind, you might think it’s a Chardonnay from the Maconnais. But on the palate we’re going back Cali like LL Cool J with soft, minimal oak exposure adding some dill and a subtle sweet tinge along the lines of flaky pie crust; but just a bit. All this comes to a nice crescendo with a welcoming, long finish that leaves a balanced memory of everything you just experienced.
