Fort Ross Vineyard Chardonnay 2020 Review
Owners Lester and Linda Schwartz landed in Fort Ross in the late '80s determined to grow and make wine from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that showed a sense of place, the Sonoma Coast. Through hard work (they planted the first 53 acres themselves) and drive they were pioneers in this area. They also lead the charge for the creation of the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, which was approved in 2012. These wines are the initial proving ground for this success. This wine is deep and balanced with the brightness of a sea spray. The nose has judicial oak with some vanilla aromas among the fruit. The palate has some good weight to it while being refreshed by the coastal natural acidity.
