France produces a lot of wine — millions and millions of tons of grapes are harvested every year — which makes them the second largest producer in the world, behind only Italy (things change year to year and depending on the measurement you use). No matter how you count it up, that’s a lot of grapes, which need to be grown in a highly developed Western European country populated by 63.9 million people. When we saw this stunning French population map we knew we had to mash it up with a map of French wine regions. The interesting result is what you see below!
