The Story Behind The High Rye Gold Rush

The bold profile of Johnnie Walker High Rye shines in this riff on the popular modern classic, the Gold Rush, originally made with rye whiskey. The innovative Scotch contains some of the same beloved single malts, including Cardhu, found in the iconic Johnnie Walker Black Label, and has a mash bill of 60 percent rye that has been aged in American oak. To combine, shake Johnnie Walker High Rye, honey syrup, and lemon juice over ice and pour into a rocks glass with a clear ice cube. Frothy and refreshing, the citrus and honey meld perfectly with the whisky’s flavors of bright apple, creamy vanilla, and dried clove.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces Johnnie Walker High Rye
  • ¾ ounces honey syrup (2:1 honey to water)
  • ½ ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Garnish: fresh lemon wheel

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake until cold.
  3. Strain into a chilled rocks glass with one large clear ice cube.
  4. Garnish with a fresh lemon wheel.
