The Story Behind The Cynar Bitter Giuseppe

While great on its own, Cynar makes for an exceptional base in the Bitter Giuseppe, a twist on the classic Manhattan. When combined with sweet vermouth (we recommend 1757 Rosso, which is unique to Italy’s Piedmont region and lingers on the palate with its floral, wormwood signature), the cocktail offers smooth, velvety sips layered with flavor intrigue.

Fresh lemon, orange bitters, and a dash of salt enhance the bittersweet profile and create a truly versatile drink that is both energizing as an apéritif and soothing as a digestif — the perfect complement to any meal. It also, of course, makes a delightful and sophisticated standalone cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Cynar
  • 1 ounce 1757 Rosso
  • Bar spoon of lemon juice
  • 6 dashes orange bitters
  • Pinch of Kosher salt
  • Garnish: lemon twist

Directions

  1. Combine the ingredients in a mixing glass.
  2. Add ice and stir.
  3. Strain into an Old Fashioned glass filled with ice.
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist.
