In early April, Drinks International has released its annual ranking of “The World’s Most Admired Wine Brands.” The list features 50 iconic producers from across the globe, spanning North and South America to Australasia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
An admittedly subjective topic, Drinks International notes that the brands were “chosen by an academy made up of the world’s leading wine experts” from 48 different countries, with the aim of highlighting “the most iconic, exciting and innovative producers in the world.”
Of the 50 icons and innovators, European brands featured 29 times, with France ranking 11 times, Spain eight times, and Italy six. Spain’s Familia Torres topped the list, followed by Argentina’s Catena. Vega Sicilia, also in Spain, ranked third.
The entire list reads like a who’s who of notable international producers, though it’s not just luxury labels. Ranking in 40th, for example, is the world-renowned Sassicaia, whose fans include LeBron James and Meghan Markle. Placing above the famous Super Tuscan in 39th, you’ll find Gallo Family Vineyards.
