America’s most-craved burger is set to receive a personalized beer pairing.
On Monday, Pennsylvania-based Weyerbacher Brewing Company announced it’s working with White Castle to release a number of collaboration brews. Speaking to Brewbound, Weyerbacher’s chief operating officer Josh Lampe said: “We’ve got a lot of good stuff on the horizon.”
According to Lampe, the collaboratory beers will be available on-draft inside White Castle’s nearly 400 restaurant locations. The partnership will also see packaged versions sold in grocery stores that stock frozen White Castle products.
The first of several releases is a still-unnamed kölsch. As you might expect, the brew “goes well with burgers,” according to Lampe.
For Weyerbacher, the success of the collaboration comes with heightened importance. The Pennsylvania brewery filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2019 and Weyerbacher expects the White Castle brews to account for 20 percent of its 2020 production.
Jamie Richardson, White Castle’s vice president, told Food & Wine that a beer “was in the works,” but revealed few other details.
“As we prepare to celebrate our 100th birthday in 2021, we are in the midst of planning lots of fun initiatives and surprises,” Richardson wrote in an email. “It’s too early for us to comment on any specifics about how widely available a White Castle inspired beer might be in our restaurants, but we’re enjoying the creative process we’re working on right now in real time.”
Here’s hoping those restaurant locations include somewhere inside New York City. All of a sudden, we have the strongest craving for a couple of sliders and an ice-cold kölsch.
