Nothing recalls childhood delight like watching our tongues turn a different color after indulging in excessive amounts of sour candy. Bringing a healthy dose of nostalgia to adult life, the candy brand Warheads has now unveiled a new hard seltzer line. The release is a collaborative effort with a small upstate New York brewery, Artisanal Brew Works.
The brewery told Food & Wine the seltzers’ flavor is “true to the candy” and “totally unlike any other seltzer you’ve had before.” Apparently, the flavor profile mimics the moment when the “candy transitions from the sour phase to the flavor phase.”
The hard seltzers come in the flavors Black Cherry, Lemon, Green Apple, Blue Raspberry, and Watermelon, and clock in at 5 percent ABV. Four packs of 16-ounce cans are available for curbside pickup preorder on the brewery’s website for $15. If all goes well, there’s hope the seltzers will soon be available nationwide at select retailers.
The release of the seltzers was prompted by the success of the brewery’s gluten-free Warhead sour ales, which were very well-received following their debut last year. The beers are available in the same flavors at the seltzers and are also 5 percent ABV.
If you feel like reliving the 90’s without unearthing your old Backstreet Boys t-shirt and bringing back those frosted tips, maybe just crack one of these hard seltzers instead.
