It would be an understatement to call “Star Trek,” a cultural touchstone since in 1966 debut, a cult classic. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of 1980s television spinoff “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” New York’s Shmaltz Brewing Company has released a new beer called Star Trek: The Next Generation 30th Anniversary Ale – Captain’s Holiday.

As Food and Wine wisely notes, it’s an awfully wordy beer name. It alludes to the one of the show’s episodes, in which the crew convinces a stressed-out Captain Picard to take a vacation on planet Risa.

Shmaltz’s beer is intended to be similarly festive and relaxing. At 5.5 percent alcohol by volume, Captain’s Holiday Ale features lemon, lime, and orange citrus hop flavors. It’s available in four-packs and on draft at participating bars.

Earlier this year, Shmaltz released a hoppy wheat ale called Symbiosis. The brewery has also created three other “Star Trek” themed beers since 2016, including Star Trek Klingon Imperial Porter; and two different 50-year anniversary beers, Star Trek Golden Anniversary Ale: The Trouble With Tribbles, and Star Trek Golden Anniversary Ale: Voyage To The Northeast Quadrant.

Pay your respects to “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” by going where many men and women have gone before: throw on an old episode, crack open a beer, and set sail.
