Maryland-based Flying Dog Brewery is collaborating with Green Leaf Medical to release the state’s first THC-infused beer this year. According to a press release, the beer, named Hop Chronic, will be a non-alcoholic IPA.

Hop Chronic will serve as a “medical delivery system,” the release says, providing cannabis patients with therapeutic cannabinoids CBD, CBG, and THC. The beer will be sold in six-packs or single-serve 12-ounce cans, and will be available at dispensaries throughout Maryland.

“We see a lot of interest in cannabis from the craft beer community, and we jumped at the opportunity to partner with Green Leaf,” Ben Savage, Flying Dog’s chief marketing officer, says. “There are definitely similarities between the natural flavor profiles we extract from hops and the terpenes and cannabinoids found in Cannabis.”

“In a way, the cannabis industry is a lot like the craft beer movement was a few decades ago,” Phil Goldberg, Green Leaf’s chief executive officer, says. “We have to educate people and change the overall perception of what cannabis is, what it could be, and how it might benefit people.”

Flying Dog and Green Leaf see Hop Chronic as the first of many collaborations, and beer-inspired cannabis strains, as well as cannabis-strain-inspired beer recipes, are both said to be in the works this year.
