Dogs have long been called “man’s best friend,” but with stay-at-home measures in place, our four-legged companions are living up to that moniker in surprising new ways. Hot on the heels (or paws) of the Maryland Brindle Boxer providing curbside wine delivery, two courageous canines have joined the cause by delivering craft beer for a Long Island brewery.
At Six Harbors Brewing Company in Huntington, NY, owners Karen and Mark Heuwetter grew nervous when coronavirus shutdowns began. Prior to the shutdown, they had no model for delivery, and sales at their business soon dropped by 70 percent. But on Friday, the Heuwetters told CBS they have since switched to offering delivery, aided in large part by their “brew dogs” Barley and Buddy.
The two dogs carry cans from car to doorstep, providing beer and cheer to local residents, all the while practicing safe social distancing. Karen Heuwetter says people really enjoy seeing Barley and Buddy, and she’s happy that the dogs can bring smiles to people’s faces.
Those who don’t live in Huntington can get in on the cheer (minus the beer, sadly) by following the adventures of Barley and Buddy on Six Harbors’ Instagram account. The brewery also offers a virtual tour of its facility online, for anyone wishing to get to know the beer behind the brew dogs.
While it’s often said that two heads are better than one, in the case of beer delivery, four legs are definitely better than two.
