Laura Dern has plenty to celebrate these days. Fresh on the heels of her critically acclaimed performance in the HBO mini-series Big Little Lies, the actress is set to star in the upcoming Twin Peaks reboot later this month. Then, in December, she takes to the big screen for a debut role in a little-known cinematic franchise known as Star Wars.

But this Sunday, along with mothers across the country, it is Dern herself who will be celebrated. As with most joyous occasions, this figures to involve a few flutes of Champagne. VinePair recently sat down with Dern at a brunch hosted by Perrier-Jouët. Over a bottle of her favorite bubbly — the brand’s premium Belle Epoque label — the vivacious Hollywood veteran opened up on a range of topics. When it comes to sensitive matters, however, mums the word.

What are your plans for Mother’s Day this Sunday?

To honor my mom. And hopefully we get to have time with our kids to celebrate. My kids have something cooked up. So, we’ll wait and see… And [Bit Little Lies co-star] Reese [Witherspoon]’s mom and my mom have become good friends, so we’re going to celebrate with them together.

Are you a fan of Champagne?

Thanks to Perrier [Jouët] I am… Champagne is the centerpiece for the greatest moments of our life.

Are you a fan of Champagne cocktails?

I’m a straight Champagne person!

Are there similarities between yourself and your character on Big Little Lies?

My character loves her red wine. I do love it, too, but she has a lot to teach me about fashion, and red wine.

Was there a lot of drinking on set?

Honestly, when you’re working, if you’re lucky you’re all gathering for dinner at night with some lovely red wine, which, certainly, for Reese [Witherspoon] and Nicole [Kidman] and Shailene [Woodley] and I, we definitely did.

But the word is that Reese is more of a bourbon fan.

Oh is she? I’ve had red wine with her for sure, but i didn’t know about that part.

Big Little Lies was a smash hit. Do you plan on reprising your role in the mini-series?

There’s questions, there’s curiosities. I love my character so much, so it would be a blast.

What can you tell us about Twin Peaks?

I can’t tell you anything about my role, because I’m sworn, literally, to secrecy. But you will find out a week from Sunday and I’m so excited. I can’t wait to see it, myself.

And what about Star Wars?

I can’t tell you anything about that either. I’m the most boring interview in Hollywood!

Not at all. Thanks so much, Laura. Happy Mother’s Day!
