Can I age Fireball whisky?
I’m not going to ask why exactly you want to know the answer to this question — I’m going to assume you recently discovered an errant bottle of Fireball left over from a party some years ago and you’re curious as to whether it’s improved or degraded.
The simple answer is no, you can’t really age Fireball.
Fireball is actually a liqueur, not a whiskey. Its alcohol by volume (ABV) is 33 percent, as opposed to whiskey’s 40 percent or more. In either case, the alcohol will protect the liquid from becoming rancid and generally keep it stabilized. The sugar flavoring in liqueur could evolve a bit, but it’s not going to make it taste “better.” On the other hand, it won’t turn like an Irish cream such as Baileys would.
I’d still only drink the bottle if it hasn’t been opened before, though. Thanks to Fireball’s high sugar content, an open bottle could have attracted unwanted bugs or other pests that you may not want to find floating inside your shot.
I’d suggest buying a new bottle instead of consuming an “aged” bottle. That way, you’re more likely to experience the flavors as they were intended.
