VinePair is seeking a full-time staff writer to help launch a new site devoted to cannabis. The writer should be comfortable generating 4-6 stories a day and writing in several different formats. We’re looking for an ambitious and talented writer to join our fast growing team. This position will receive equity. Salary is commensurate with experience.

 

Some of your duties include:  

  • Constantly staying plugged into what’s happening in the world of cannabis and how major news events relate back to this area.
  • Writing 4-6 articles per day that tap into cannabis culture.
  • Covering breaking news.
  • Creating content that resonates and drives conversation.
  • Writing articles about history, culture, politics and travel, and viewing these subjects through our lifestyle lens.
  • Helping us grow, diversify, and innovate our presence on Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and other social media channels.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with writers and other authorities to bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the site.
  • Writing in a number of different formats, including news updates, features, explainers, interviews, and longform.
  • Developing a voice for the the site that is consistent with VinePair’s and with the expectations of VinePair’s readers, yet is also unique.
  • Carving out a niche for cannabis coverage that would speak to an upscale female audience. The writer should come into this position with thoughts about how to cultivate an audience of female readers interested in cannabis.

This position is more than just re-blogging. Ability to conceive of and generate original content is a must.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years experience in lifestyle focused journalism, preferably digital
  • Ability to generate clean copy
  • A passion for culture, dining, nightlife and entertaining
  • An understanding of the world of cannabis
  • Firm belief in the distinct difference between writing about cannabis in a thought provoking way, and covering cannabis in a way that is disrespectful and celebrates stoner culture
  • Ability to write dynamic headlines and a familiarity with SEO or a willingness to learn
  • Proficiency in Photoshop
  • Ability to load in stories to a CMS system
  • A familiarity with the fast pace of internet publishing
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to take the perspective of others
  • A sense of humor
  • A four-year undergraduate degree
  • Must be able to work full-time in our New York City offices.

Brand Partnership Manager

VinePair is seeking our first full-time Brand Partnership Manager to bring our popular verticals to the marketplace. This person will manage all advertising and sponsorship sales for VinePair including digital, branded content, and event sales. This as a great opportunity for an entrepreneurially-minded candidate who wants a chance to create their own department within a fast-growing media organization.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage sales cycle from beginning to end including: prospecting new accounts, identifying decision makers, conducting compelling and dynamic in-person sales presentations, negotiating and closing contracts, collecting materials, and providing accounts with post-campaign reporting.
  • Secure and manage response to all RFP’s from clients and agencies.
  • Work closely with editorial team to create strong, creative, and compelling 360-degree advertising programs and offerings.
  • Heavily prospect and cold call to secure and grow new accounts.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and agencies.
  • Meet and exceed quarterly sales goals.
  • Continually update and customize sales presentations, as well are general advertising materials (media kit, audience data, etc.).
  • Conduct regular sales meetings and provide revenue updates to upper management.
  • Manage all materials and campaigns in DFP including regular reports to advertisers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years experience in digital advertising sales required with a proven record of exceeding revenue goals.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with creative integrated selling across multiple platforms with premium brands (social, content/native, digital, and events).
  • Ability to create compelling integrated programs that align with VinePair’s editorial POV.
  • An understanding of the value and challenges of selling a start-up brand.
  • In-depth knowledge of digital media and online marketing technology and its competitive landscape.
  • Knowledge and interest in wine, beer and spirits a must!
