It’s every college student’s worst nightmare – getting caught drinking underage, or even worse, having a police officer confiscate that fake ID you forked over serious cash for. But what happened to Elizabeth Daly is a crazy twist on that familiar tale:
Elizabeth Daly, 21, launched a US$40 million lawsuit against the state of Virginia after she was made to spend a night behind bars after its alcohol beverage control agents allegedly jumped on her car, flashed a gun and tried to break her car window in the belief that she had illegally bought beer. Virginia’s attorney general says a $212,500 settlement has been reached with a University of Virginia student who was arrested after her purchase of water was mistaken for beer. (via WDBJ7)
