While some New Yorkers prescribe bourbon and pickle juice as a hangover cure, Texans appear to prefer their brine served with beer.

Martin House Brewing Co. and Best Maid Pickles, both located in Fort Worth, have collaborated to release a sour beer made with pickle juice. Called Sour Pickle Beer, the brew combines Martin House’s Salty Lady gose and Best Maid’s pickle juice for a 5.5-percent-ABV pour.

“When you taste this beer you’re going to taste pickle juice 100 percent,” Shugg Cole, director of marketing for Best Maid Pickles, told GuideLive.

This isn’t the first time Martin House has used pickle juice in its brews. Each spring, the brewery holds an event dedicated to sour beers, called Sour Fest, and for the past two years, beers incorporating pickle juice have proven to be a big hit. “It’s always the first keg to blow,” Cole says.

As part of the collaboration, Best Maid is also releasing a new line of pickles inspired by Martin House’s Salty Lady beer. The alcohol-free brine for the Salty Lady pickles includes salt, lemon, and coriander.

Martin House will celebrate the release of Sour Pickle Beer with a launch party at its brewery on Saturday, Aug. 17. Locals will also be able to try Best Maid’s new Salty Lady pickles during the event. Following the party, the limited-release beer is set to sell in draft lines and six-pack cans throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
