Absolut In Depth
Absolut Vodka arrived in New York in 1979, but the original version, called Ab-solut Rent Brännvin, was released in Sweden way back in 1879 by Lars Olsson Smith.
To this day, the original recipe and continuous distillation method remain the same.
Everything about Absolut’s creation, from the farmed winter wheat to distillation and bottling, happens within a 75-mile radius of Åhus, a small village in Sweden where Smith was born.
It was a vintage apothecary bottle from the 18th century, found in an antique store in Stockholm, that inspired the shape of the Absolut bottle. Andy Warhol loved the bottle so much that he would carry it to parties.
