Here’s a fascinating map produced by Nikhil Sonnad and Emma Pierson, a Researcher at University of Oxford for Quartz. Back in the summer and fall of 2014 she collected 2 million tweets with the alcohol hashtags #wine and #beer, and now she’s mapped them to reveal who is drinking what across Western Europe.

In the category of “Not A Surprise”, we see a number of famous wine producing regions tilting heavily to wine: Bordeaux, Burgundy, and the Rhône in France, Piedmont and Tuscany in Italy, and Rioja in Spain. On the other hand, we’d love to know what’s up with all that wine tweeting in Aberdeen and all of North East Scotland!
