Where does your beer really come from? Despite the uptick in the number of craft breweries and craft beer options in the United States, the majority of the beers people consume come from a few major companies. Take the Boston Beer Company, for example.
The company went public in 1985 with Samuel Adams Boston Lager. Jim Koch, the founder, discovered a previously untapped audience of beer drinkers ready for something different than the American macro lagers that proliferated at the time. Today, Koch’s company is bigger than Sam Adams. It’s a public company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and has expanded to include four different breweries making beer, alcoholic sparkling water, cider, and hard lemonade. It also owns A&S Brewing, a “craft beer incubator” that runs four more breweries.
Each brewery under The Boston Beer Company has its own style, but in the end, it all comes back to one parent company. Here are all of the breweries that operate under The Boston Beer Company name, and the drinks they make.
